For years we used the wrong spinning reels. How? Because we incorrectly thought we needed big spinning reels to fight inshore fish like big redfish, snook, trout, tarpon, etc.
I can't even imagine how many fish we missed because we came in too overpowered for the situation.
Turns out that even a 1000 series spinning reel can get the job done in most cases.
However, the smaller reels also have downsides.
So in this episode, we address everything you need to know about picking the correct spinning reel size.
Enjoy!
If you are as fired up about the red tide destroying our fishery as we are, then this is a very important episode to listen to. We have one two of the leaders from Tampa Bay Water Keeper to discuss what's really going on with the red tide.
We also discuss the lawsuit that was filed against Piney Point and the state of Florida that Tampa Bay Water Keeper and a few others filed.
We also discuss the four simple things we need to be doing as anglers to help this horrible situation.
This has to be one of the best stories I've shared on the podcast.
It's a great reminder that God is never done with you if you're still breathing.
It's a great reminder of the power of FAITH.
And it's a great reminder that you're never too old or have too much bad luck to do big things.
Enjoy this one and prepare to be inspired!
What an amazing day! We had the opportunity to go behind the scenes with MOTE Marine and FWC for a huge snook release. Best news is that we documented the entire thing so you can hear (and see) exactly how they reproduce fish, and where we released them!
If you've ever been curious about snook and redfish farms, you're going to love this!
Do you have a fishing network? If no, then you are at a MASSIVE DISADVANTAGE over other anglers who do.
In fact, you'll never be able to truly become as consistent at catching fish as you'd hoped you'd be without a network.
So listen in as we share how we use our network and community to share spots, trends, and shortcuts.
Enjoy and tight lines!
Looking back on life, there were a few things that I can definitely say changed my life.
Accepting Jesus as my savior.
Getting married.
Having kids.
Starting a company.
Having a written down mission and vision statement.
If you don't have the written down statement, I can assure you that you're missing out on some of life's goodness.
Listen in and find out why.
It's officially summertime! Which is one of the best times to use lures for catching inshore saltwater slams (especially topwater lures in the morning).
So in this podcast, the crew all chimes in on the exact lures we use during the summer months.
Enjoy and tight lines!
If you want a tried and true way to catch lots of redfish, then you've got to listen to this LIVE on the water redfish highway episode with Capt. Peter Deeks. In this episode, Peter shares how he finds redfish highways, how to fish these proven highways, and why cut mullet is the best overall bait in to use.
So if you want a bunch of those slot reds, this is a must-hear episode.
Of course, make sure to go watch the full on the water footage at www.saltstrong.com
It's true... almost 100% of what we worry about and fear in life either never happens, isn't as bad as we thought, or is out of our control. Knowing that, why worry at all? Of course, that's easier said than done. But I've found a simple way to break down (and CRUSH) and fears in my life.
Listen in as I share the 3-step process to get rid of fear and worry.
In this new episode, we team up with author and YouTube creator John Skinner where he shares exactly how we dialed in the Florida flats and mangroves even though he's from New York.
Listen in as John shares his frustrations, what's different, what's the same, and how he was finally able to dial in the redfish (and tarpon, snook, trout) in a brand new area.
Some priceless intel here.
Let's face it, sometimes the trolling motor dies on you. And sometimes you're fishing on a boat, skiff, or kayak without a trolling motor. In these scenarios, one of the best ways to catch a ton of fish is by drifting the flat for specked trout.
So in this LIVE episode, we show you exactly how we drift a flat for trout (including the best spots, time, tide, etc).
We even throw in our secret grouper trick that continues to work everywhere.
Enjoy!
My 4-year old son Jackson learned an incredibly valuable lesson this past week... sometimes you've got to cut off some dying limbs in order to grow.
Listen in as we both had an "A-Ha" moment this week.
Did you know that the military used to put a white bucktail jig in every soldier's survival pack? It was the ONE LURE they believed could catch fish anywhere in the world.
Ironically, here we are many decades later and the same bucktail jigs are still working like never before.
Listen in as we share the 10 reasons why every saltwater angler should have a bucktail jig in their tackle bag.
